Engineering has been around for many years and existed in a variety of forms. Even basic inventions still required some skill and intelligently based design techniques. An invention such as the “wheel” required the talents of an engineer to provide the initial type concept.
The very first types of engineering projects were then based on “trial and error”. Individuals who possessed technical skills, creativity and imaginative thought patterns tried out methods on design and how to put things back together.
Back around the era of 2550bc Imhotep a recognized engineer of his time built the “Step Pyramid” in the country Egypt and could possibly be the first recognized engineer in history. He was said to be somewhat influential and powerful and was the first to come up with the initial type of concept.
William Gerbert gained recognition for the type of work he was involved in known as electrical engineering. Far back as the 18th century engineering was recognized as an influential and respected job and this era saw strong links develop with math and science.
The initial stages relating to modern engineering began in a time known as the “Scientific Revolution”. Individuals started to think about ways to design objects, devices and machines that could effectively replace the constant need for human exertion. Thomas Savery built and designed the first type of steam engine, and the steam engine provided transport. The steam engine allowed for heavy and larger cargo items. This era saw the need to start up mass production.
Chemical engineering became important in the early stages of the “industrial revolution” where manufacturing methods on chemicals and the need for new materials. Chemical engineers came up with innovative methods to create products out of raw materials and then apply these products into mass production.
In conclusion, engineering to this day is a respected and highly specialized field that requires a technical brain that uses imaginative and creative techniques in projects.
